Club Crap

Going over some of my old posts today, I noticed that I seem to be stuck in the Sufferfest’s Downward Spiral.

Despite the observation(s) I made when I received the bonehead award late February, I’ve continued to make the same stupid mistakes.

I fumbled in Flanders, got back on my bike before I fully recovered and then increased the stakes for the next BHA while freezing off my bike in the Hochsauerland.

And because I wanted to crush the competition, I followed that with a week of egghead rides, finishing myself off in Fourons…

Maintenance Week

Due to exceptionally good weather this week, I’ve been able to ride outside, which beats riding the Tacx trainer by a million miles, albeit that the latter is much safer.

Last year around this time, things were still covered in snow, pro races were cancelled and I was on my turbo trainer like a hamster in a wheel.

Two years ago, the weather was also very nice, I was riding outside – I had even done a Gran Fondo or two already – but ended up in the hospital after a bad crash, which left me with several broken ribs, a fractured shoulder and a badly bruised hip.

Needles to say that this time of year is causing mixed emotions and we haven’t even reached May yet, where last year I ended up in the hospital again after another crash

System Overload

Despite the relatively good weather lately, I haven’t been riding outside. Actually, I haven’t been riding at all, since my Valentine’s ride with Paula.

Needless to say, I’m even more grumpy than usual right now. I do not (want to) check Strava for activities by my virtual friends and I dislike any post on Facebook that’s about an outside ride.

So, what’s up? I’m a bonehead, that’s what. I got on my bike, doing a hard – albeit virtual – climb, despite my more than usual aching back.

I have more physical problems than I care to acknowledge, many of which I brush off as “age related”.

However, lumbago (or LBP) is one I should not ignore lightly when there’s increasing pain.

Tour of Sufferlandria 2014

ToS 2014 BIBFor as long as I can actually do them daily, I will put up a short post race report on all stages of the 2014 Tour of Sufferlandria.

Last modified: February 1, 2014 – my second Tour of Sufferlandria is done!

Stage 9

There is a reason I have avoided Violator and today confirmed I was right in doing so.

Many people seem to like it, probably (mainly) because of the 64 recovery intervals.

However, as I suspected, this doesn’t apply to me – maybe if I’m well rested I can do a better job of following the line, but not today.

I just kept on pushing during the 5 second intervals, because there simply is no way I can accelerate and slow down between 30+ and 60+ kph repeatedly during that time frame.

The longer intervals were better, but suffice it to say I’m feeling violated…

Sufferfest Knighthood Quest

CliniClown LogoYesterday was D-Day or Sufferfest Knighthood Quest Day.

More importantly, it was fundraiser day for CliniClowns/Clown Doctors.

I already received over 500 Euros prior to my ride and/but I was expecting more to come in on the day itself.

And I’m I was hoping for some more the next couple of days -> which actually happened 🙂

So, at 7:00 AM I got started on the first video – I established a riding order, whereas number 10 was “open for debate”:
