System Overload

Despite the relatively good weather lately, I haven’t been riding outside. Actually, I haven’t been riding at all, since my Valentine’s ride with Paula.

Needless to say, I’m even more grumpy than usual right now. I do not (want to) check Strava for activities by my virtual friends and I dislike any post on Facebook that’s about an outside ride.

So, what’s up? I’m a bonehead, that’s up. I got on my bike, doing a hard – albeit virtual – climb, despite my more than usual aching back.

I have more physical problems than I care to acknowledge, many of which I brush off as “age related”. However, lumbago (or LBP) is one I should not ignore lightly when there’s increasing pain.

Tour of Sufferlandria 2014

ToS 2014 BIBFor as long as I can actually do them daily, I will put up a short post race report on all stages of the 2014 Tour of Sufferlandria.

Last modified: February 1, 2014 – my second Tour of Sufferlandria is done!

Stage 9

There is a reason I have avoided Violator and today confirmed I was right in doing so. Many people seem to like it, probably (mainly) because of the 64 recovery intervals. However, as I suspected, this doesn’t apply to me – maybe if I’m well rested I can do a better job of following the line, but not today.

I just kept on pushing during the 5 second intervals, because there simply is no way I can accelerate and slow down between 30+ and 60+ kph repeatedly during that time frame. The longer intervals were better, but suffice it to say I’m feeling violated…

Sufferfest Knighthood Quest

CliniClown LogoYesterday was D-Day or Sufferfest Knighthood Quest Day.

More importantly, it was fundraiser day for CliniClowns/Clown Doctors.

I already received over 500 Euros prior to my ride and/but I was expecting more to come in on the day itself.

And I’m I was hoping for some more the next couple of days -> which actually happened 🙂

So, at 7:00 AM I got started on the first video – I established a riding order, whereas number 10 was “open for debate”:

Crash: Rewind, Repeat, Replay

It has now been two weeks and most Tweeps and Facebookers among you are already “up to date”, but just for fun I’ll throw in a free a blog post on my latest crash.

Wednesday, May 8, I was “on zee baik” for the 6th time in 7 days. Putting on more miles for the Strava “May Massive” challenge, just during a period of good – well: relatively speaking – weather. In short, I was in a flow – or so I thought …

On my return, about 72 kilometers into the ride, I decided to go for a full 100 k again and did not take the shortcut home. That would have been about 10 k more and even a bit further on, I was considering to shorten the ride a bit (by about 5 k). If only I had, but I was stubborn and 100 is 100 and not the same as 92…

Tour of Sufferlandria 2013

ToS Leader JerseyWith today’s double “The Wretched” and “The Long Scream”, the 6th stage in the “Tour of Sufferlandria” is done and dusted. Just three more days of “IWBMATTKYT” and the whole tour is over…

I took the leader jersey right from stage 1 and it fits like a glove. Anyone planning to take it from me, would be wise to follow an accelerated probability course. To put it simple: a snowball’s chance to survive in hell, is infinitely greater…
